FREE WORKSHOP SERIES - DESPITE A DOWN ECONOMY.

June 23, 2009 (Los Angeles, CA) – The Icon launches its new look on Saturday, June 27, 2009 with the opening reception of the Clark | Oshin Gallery at The Icon, a new contemporary photography gallery located on the venerable Museum Row near the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

The gallery’s inaugural exhibition features the work of highly acclaimed photographer Hugh Kretschmer, with a large selection of his wry, surrealistic photographs on display through September 15, in which the exhibit will then rotate to another emerging or established photographer.

The Icon is a full-service traditional photo lab and digital lab featuring exceptional museum quality printing. “The idea of exhibiting art in a mixed use space seemed a natural. The Icon is one of the true hearts of the photo community,” said Kathleen Clark. Many, many fine artists print work at The Icon and often bump into old friends. In a craft or business where everyone works independently, the idea of creating an exhibition space where photographers are already at home builds upon that sense of community.”

The Icon is one of the last remaining pro labs in the country that still provides full-service both traditional and digital. As other labs, in Los Angeles and across the country, have been bought up or closed their doors, The Icon continues to provide comprehensive services including color and B&W processing, retouching/digital imaging, printing, digital capture and a host of ancillary services. Clients include top commercial, editorial, entertainment and fine art photographers, publishers and museums across the country.

As an added benefit The Icon has expanded their client services to include a customer lounge with Mac computers and free assistance by digitalphotography expert Lee Varis, who also leads weekly Wednesday workshops at The Icon that cover various digital photography topics on workflow, capture, printing, and more.
